My background
My life/work experience is quite varied. I come from Italy where, in my teens, I used to work during summers taking part to various activities organised by a cultural association whose scope was to promote culture and tourism in the Aeolian Islands, (a small archipelago consisting of seven islands located in Southern Italy, nearby the Sicilian North-East coast).
When this cultural association stopped organising its musical shows, plays and other similar events, I moved to a local television where I used to work writing for the news.
In the meantime, I was studying to get a diploma as surveyor and successively I started to learn CAD methods for architectural drawing.
It was then that my interest for computers grew and, after some years spent working as CAD designer, I decided to further my education and life experience by moving to UK to get a degree in business information systems.
During my experience at Salford University I have learnt a great deal about the software lifecycle, how to program in visual basic and on database design and development. But, the turning point in my own development path was the undertaking of modules such as “Using and Developing World Wide Web Applications” and “Multimedia Development”.
When I was studying those modules, back in 2001, I learnt to use the Macromedia suite in particular Dreamweaver, Fireworks and Flash. I also gained knowledge of HTML and ActionScript and created a web site (my first!) and a multimedia application consisting of a student guide on CD-ROM for students of the Salford University.
No need to say that I fell in love with web design and multimedia development.
After graduation, I knew I wanted to become a web designer so I started to study more in depth the relevant techniques while working freelance designing and building web sites for small and medium sized businesses and individuals.
Since then, my knowledge in the field of web design and coding has widely grown embracing (X)HTML, DOM, JavaScript e CSS.
Among other things, I am also starting now to master PHP to interface my web sites with databases and to create more complex e-commerce web applications.
